What to do When you Need Help
Intro
There is absolutely no shame in asking for help. Of course, it takes courage to assess your weaknesses and addresses them to someone in order to receive proper guidance. Many fears prevent you from getting help. You don’t want to appear incompetent, but there is a small chance that you would actually give that impression. Rather, when you ask for help, it displays perseverance and dedication to your job as you are implying interest in your job. You are exhibiting traits of courage and diligence as you are in pursuit of perfecting your abilities and that contributes to the overall success of the company/business you are working at. Let HRMatrix help you in achieving optimal progress by breaking down critical steps on how to receive proper help.
Organize your thoughts
Firstly, you want to organize your thoughts. What that means is, that you need to break down your weaknesses and understand their origins to make it clear what you are seeking help for. Before approaching someone else for help, you need to be prepared with a list in your head that covers all of your inabilities and current weaknesses. The goal is to not only ask for help but seek the right kind of help. Addressing your problems in a clear, organized manner will help you expedite this process. Write down what tasks you are having trouble with and then assess your inabilities in accordance with your tasks.
It doesn’t always have to be management
Typically, most employees who are looking for help refer to management as management is perceived as the know-all of the workplace. While this may, fortunately, be the case for many other employees, it might not be for you. That is okay, and you do not need to panic. Even if there isn’t anyone in the workplace that can mentor you to convert your weaknesses into strengths, you can still find help beyond the boundaries of your workplace. That’s plan C though. Plan A is to reach out to management, and if that is not available, then plan B would target colleagues who have relative experience in your field. Think about the departments in your workplace. Which department is at least a cousin to yours? If you find one, search through the department’s composition of employees to locate someone who can help you solve your current issues.
Communicate your issue
After organizing your current weaknesses, and addressing them to a relevant colleague or management, it is time that you communicate in a productive manner to seek proper help. You cannot just rely on them to miraculously resolve your weaknesses and make you the most productive employee on the floor. In fact, you move even further away from that general prospect if you do not communicate properly. Refrain from whining about inabilities and definitely don’t complain about your job. Rather approach the situation in a progressive light as your goal is to do better and be better.
