Reducing Workplace Stress

Stress is a quantifiable subject when you are in the process of measuring the mental obstructions that you encounter in the workplace to ultimately see if you are regressing as an employee. Of course, stress is not numerically measured, but to come to a consensus- that you may need help or you may need to take actions to reduce that stress- you need to learn how to engage with yourself. You need to understand what you can handle and what you cannot.

It is a pretty easy assessment actually as you will have to simply monitor your emotions and energy limitations (meaning how much effort you can and can’t provide). HRMatrix wants to confront this issue, because we are basically in full throttle post-covid-spike. We are back in the workplace and physically stationing ourselves as opposed to working remotely. The transition is, in a word, stressful.

The most important thing to tell yourself is that it’s definitely okay to feel this way. The transitional and even pre existing circumstances bear weight and can influence your wellbeing. So tell yourself that it is okay. Feeling stressed out is inevitable.

Now comes the monitoring part. This is where you have to observe yourself as almost a third party to study your mental drainage. When does it happen? Is it when the workload is too much? Is it the adjustment to your (fairly) new schedule? When do you feel most stressed. Remember that stress isn’t a singular emotion and there are symptoms that are synonymous to the matter. You may feel mental exhaustion, inability to maintain consistent productivity and/or temporary loss of social interest. Once you have assessed your capacity, let HRMatrix ease you into new approaches on how to mitigate this issue.

You are your first priority. If your wellbeing is absent, then your best potentials are absent. How are you possibly going to excel if you are not okay?

  1. Your Productivity

The rate of productivity defines you as an employee. Of course you are more than an employee, but what you produce and the quality of your production matters in the workplace. If you slow down, people notice. Most workplace departments are dependent on one another, because each department is a pillar to the business. You play an important role- no matter which job that may be!

If there is an issue with your schedule, let’s go over it. Employees have lives beyond the workplace, right? We have responsibilities, hobbies, families, and other priorities to keep up with and there might not be enough time in the day to cover all of this. Try to divide your time.

Try the “all-in” rule. Focus on three: primary, secondary, and tertiary responsibilities. See which comes first, tackle that, then handle the next. Essentially what you are doing is you are putting all of yourself into one task instead of catering to multiples. Keep a time limit while you are at it. This will help increase the rate of labor so you can have everything done punctually.

  1. Communication is always, always key.

Remember to communicate your stresses- at least the pivotal ones that affect your workplace productivity. This will allow your superiors to understand your limitations and they will credit you for being honest.

The goal is to communicate that when you come into the workplace, you put in the work sincerely and expect the results to be perfect for the company. How can you do that when you are overloaded with work?

  1. Much needed time for yourself

You have to take breaks. Your breaks are everything. This is an important part of the day for you to wind down and assess your energy. Feel what you're going through and think about the conduction at your job. What are you doing right? What is wrong today? Think about what is a mental barrier for you and try to find ways to help it. Try meditating or indulging in a hobby. Even lunch by yourself is wildly refreshing and is known to recharge your wellbeing.
